Top Secret File 019: Steve Blum, the Voice of Super Joe
Cowboy Bebop's Spike Spiegel, Naruto's Orochimaru, X-Men's Wolverine - voice actor Steve Blum has played them all, and now he's adding Capcom's legendary hero Super Joe to the list! Steve joins us from California for this podcast to discuss what it's like to play pop culture's coolest characters, and what it was like becoming a videogames legend.

Something the team may want to consider
BIONIC COMMANDO TEAM PLEASE READ!
Please don't screw up the gorgeous scenery of the Bionic Commando sequel with those intrusive flashing button control displays that I've seen on screen in the latest multiplayer and greenhouse videos. If I dedicate X amount of hours to the game, I don't need anything in the top right corner telling me what button I need to press to punch or jump. I would absolutely hate to have such a nuisance in what seems to be an incredibly skillful and addictive game. Please at least provide the option to turn off those control displays. I only want glory for this game. God Speed.

I knew Steve was doing Super Joe when I watched a video on Gametrailers a few weeks ago and heard his trademark voice remarking about Spencer's bionics. Though he didn't mention the name I heard it and knew instantly - it had to be Super Joe. He has that grizzled old veteran's voice and I'm glad to hear he's now part of one of my favorite game franchises.
Really interested in hearing how he is tackling Joe's character, and whether he had seen or played any of the old Commando/BC games.

Question for Steve Blum
If you could choose a character from "Custer's Revenge" to voice act which one would you choose, and why.

hmmmm
id like to know if your gonna purposely add the door glitch into bc-r? And i'd also like to add that a "free swing" mode in bc current-gen would be awesome!

2D: Metroid & Rearmed
Ben, you're a fan of 2D games; did you like the Metroid series? If so, what's your opinion on the Metroid Prime series and how it sort of took over as the only kind of new Metroid you'd see? This is Bionic Commando related because I was wondering if you were planning the same route for your games (make both 2D & 3D games, but then move forward with only the 3D series), or do you see Rearmed as the first in a series all its own?
Thanks for the podcast!

Correction
When talking with Steve Blum, we got a little confused between the Irish character he plays in Beat Down, Raven, and the Irish-sounding Benjamin Keane that he played in Killer7. The quotes that Ben remembers actually come from Beat Down. Apologies!

Bionic Jam?
Hmm, should it be out by now? I haven't really gotten it yet from Sumthing Digital. Doesn't seem to let me download it anyways... But I did see a Youtube where he plays the first part of the song at Iron Man of Gaming.

Spike Spiegel
I'll stand by my comment in the podcast: That was an enjoyable interview with Spike Spiegel. Glad I finally got to hear it. That was cool of him to give you a sampling of some the voices he does.

Yes, I know
I called Steve Blum by one of his character's names. Thought I'd clear it up in case there was any confusion.

Not to forget...
Steve Blum also did another great Suda51 game, No More Heroes. He was the voice of Dark Star. He's also the voice of Vincent Valentine... by far my favorite of the FFVII characters.
You know what would be downright eerie? Put Steve Blum and David Hayter in the same room, and see what magic happens. Super Joe and Solid Snake. Gives me chills thinking about it.

David Hayter Hater?
Ben,
On behalf of all gravelly voiced Americans named Dave: You crossed the fucking line there, chief.

Oh man... what a voice!
Hearing big names in the voice casting just reassures me that the story will play a big role in this game... am I correct?
Also, are we getting Andrew back in the podcasts? Things get a bit funnier when there's someone being bullied! =P
