Bionic Commando Rearmed FAQ

How close of a remake is this to the original?

Bionic Commando Rearmed has been created by dedicated fans of the original game. Everything that was great about the original remains here, from the level design and the enemy placement, to the memorable story elements and the fantastic music. What we have done is expand the amount of things you can do - such as the capabilities of the bionic arm and the number of weapons you can use. We've also added a host of new unannounced modes on top of that.

Why should gamers who have never played Bionic Commando before care about this game?

As well as being a remake of one of the absolute classics of gaming, a legendary 8-bit title that all gamers should have played, and a triumphant return for 2D side-scrolling action, there is one important reason: regardless of the number of dimensions, Bionic Commando Rearmed is one of the most fun, thrilling games that will be released on any format this year.

Is the co-op mode online?

Originally, Bionic Commando Rearmed was developed to be a single player experience. The engine, tools, and programming were all built with this concept in mind. However, as production moved forward, developer Grin decided to try out adding a second player into the game. Not only did it work really well, but it added a lot of value to the game, so we started talking about adding online co-op. Unfortunately, by this time, the production had moved along too far and the entire game would have had to been rebuilt just to add this feature.

We know the fans will be disappointed by the lack of inclusion of online co-op but rather than adopting a policy of "what you don't know can't hurt you" by cutting the co-op altogether, we have kept it in the hope that fans will be able to appreciate the added content that wasn't even originally planned. Still, this game is supposed to be for the fans, so we have added in some very cool new modes that have yet to be revealed. Hopefully, when you see those, you'll realize just how great a bargain Bionic Commando Rearmed really is!

Why does the main character in Bionic Commando Rearmed look so different from the main character in the 3D version of Bionic Commando?

Bionic Commando Rearmed takes place ten years before the 3D version of Bionic Commando - and ten years will age a man. Spencer also spent several years in prison in that interim, and it's not like they had a stylist there. Have you looked at any pictures of yourself ten years ago lately?

Are there Nazis in this game?

Ah, you must mean the Badds, the prosaically-named lost regime from the original, right? The story of Rearmed will very closely follow that of the original, so whoever these bad guys are, you can expect to see them in the new game too.

Will we see a famous person's head explode in the game?

We've gone to great lengths to ensure that the story and plot points are faithful to the original - with a little something extra on top, of course. Naturally, seeing all of that classic 8-bit story unfold on your screen in full HD will be "head-poppingly", eye-poppingly good.

Will this be released on the DS or PSP?

There are no plans to bring Bionic Commando Rearmed out on handhelds at this time.

What has changed from the original?

Some of the elements of the original game that fans have long said could have been improved - such as the bosses - have been made even better. It's not easy to improve on something many regard as perfection, but we're confident we've done it. In addition, enemies take more than one shot to kill, you can do additional things with the bionic arm such as throw objects and enemies, interact with environmental objects, explore new locations to find hidden items, and upgrade your already-expanded arsenal of weapons.

Character art has been updated by one of Capcom Japan's most talented artists, and there are several new modes that were not in the original, such as the 2-player co-op, and a few secret modes still to come. Whether you are new to the franchise or have every version of the game ever released, there is something in here for you.

When will this be released?

Rearmed will be released spring of 2008 - we have a lot more things we want to polish up in the game before we can deliver get it onto those virtual store shelves, but rest assured that you will not be kept waiting too long for this one.

How much will this cost?

That's still up in the air, but you can expect it to offer some of the best value for your money.

Is this game related to Commando 3?

Commando 3 is being developed by a completely separate development team with a different story. While the two series, Commando and Bionic Commando, are related by birth, they have now grown a bit distant, and don't call each other very much anymore.
