As always, I try to spend a few minutes looking over the comments that everyone is taking the time to post. I really like the community that we have going here. From one-time posters who occasionally peak out to share their excitement for the final product to regulars like the 2 Dans and Hyakitaki.

It's really a great exchange and helps us know what you want and let's us tell you what we can do.

A couple of things that are worth noting:

1) When you asked for a CD cover for the BCR soundtrack we created not only that, but some fantastic liner notes as well.
2) People wanted to hear the original tunes and we tracked those down as well. Again, we offered a nice CD cover with some cleverly designed liner notes (featuring yours truly).
3) The fans wanted the game on Steam and other digital distributors and we are making that a reality.
4) You asked for BCR to be 10 bucks and we listened.

So what is my point? Basically, it's that we are trying to give you what you are asking for. Of course, in the  immortal words of one of my Producer friends here: "Fans are greedy. They want everything when they want it and they want it for free".

While we can't give it to you for free, we certainly aren't going above and beyond the call in order to milk you for everything you've got. We want to make enough profit so that the BC series is here to stay yet also make sure that everyone feels that they are getting the most bang
for their buck.

Ok, ok, enough of my Producer talk. I'm just happy that we are getting so much BC love. Which brings me to my next point: the release date.

I know you all wanted to play this baby last month. And trust me, we are working as quickly as possible to get the job done. Again, launching a title like this on 3 SKUs worldwide sounds much easier on paper. So please try to bear with us on this final road to the finish line.

One other event that we are getting behind is a special presentation that our German Localizer Florian Seidel is giving at Marburg University in Germany. For obvious reasons, localizing the German version of BCR was both a great headache and a great experience. Florian will be
talking about the detailed procedure he used to give "Master D" all of the proper impact he needed for the German market.

We'll be putting up some more information on his presentation after he comes back but for now this event remains open to the German audience only.

That sounds really interesting about the German translation. I have no complaints about treatment of the fans, as someone who has to deal with unreasonable people on a daily basis (Customers who want features now but don't want to pay for it) the guys n gals at Capcom have gone beyond the call of duty. I was one of the people who was thinking "No possible way they can make this work" when I saw the 3D BC trailer back in November. Needless to say, I've been converted by the incredible openness of the developers. I believe that most fans, when push comes to shove, will put their money where their mouth is, as shown by hopefully brisk sales of the two soundtracks.

Also, Will you guys be at San Diego in a few weeks? I'm actually going to be on vacation in Cali at the time and though I wasn't planning on going to comic con this year (too many people), I saw that Capcom is an exhibitor and the possibility to see the 3DBC or even Rearmed in person before release (well, hopefully Rearmed will be out before then but you never know) would be incredibly cool. It might convince me to make the trek from LA.

Tease!!

Ya know, I Hear "Release date" but then nothing... Is it soon? (Need the swinging goodness that is BC:R). BTW: is any one else here so addicted that they are working out ways to make The arm? I think Halloween as Rad would be well.... RAD!

Kepp up the good work you guys! And now... back to listening to the best $13 EVER SPENT! (BC n BC:R OST)

Comicon baby

@Dvincent -- Oh yeah, I'll be at Comicon in a big way. We actually get the largest presentation hall for an hour on Saturday for only BC stuff. I have a lot of stuff packed in there so if you are a fan, definitely try to swing by. Besides San Diego is great.

Also, if you have some spare time on Saturday night maybe we can go out for a drink.

@NicHex -- Thanks for supporting the music. Hopefully you feel it was worth it. I know I still listen to the BCR soundtrack... and the main theme for 3D BC... but you have yet to hear a full version of that... totally badass!

Bummer!

We're actually leaving on Saturday for a red-eye flight back to Boston! I guess it also doesn't help that it's also sold out. It's too bad you won't be there on any other days otherwise we'd make the trip. It's not THAT far and we actually plan on being in SD on one of the days. If you're there on any of the other Con days maybe we could work something out...

More than worth it

Both soundtracks are GREAT music for debugging code... makes me feel like Im doing something MUCH cooler than just correcting errors.
Also, I think because of the classic soundtrack, my wife to be (who formerly didnt like BC due to the hours I played) is starting to come around. Keep it up.

Release?

I understand that you guys cant give specifics but back in April you said it was "soon." So my only question is, is it a matter of weeks or are you guys looking more long term?

And really, some people expected this game to be free? I think the pricing is a great deal.

The most awesomest Comicon evah!

Yeah, it's true there are gonna be a ton of great BC giveaways, special limited edition merchandise, and of course the 1 long BC event on Saturday with tons of new info coming out.

Comicon will most likely be bigger than E3 where BC is concerned... but more details on that later.

for fook sakes...

So pc wise aside...A german release can wait if needs be...if localizing includes covering up graphics and changing language (as was done in the original) due to a countries extremely non-politically correct background (to be read as an atrocity)...then so be it...it's history...they can suffer... but don't make the rest of the world suffer because of some small homosexual syphillis infected mustached SOB... kick this sucker out the door and let the world play...

As for the giveaways...when do people that can't make it to the comic cons in big cities get a chance to gather some free schwag?

@lokimantis

I hear ya! But unfortunately submissions don't work like that. You submit a single disk for the world. If you hold any territory back then that country would be on a separate leaderboard and unable to compete against other countries. And all the Skus are tied together so if one is late, they all are late.

I don't make the rules... I just get the headaches.

@captinsquash -- I don't know what you are asking. If it is for a ticket... unfortunately we don't get any spare ones... just badges. :(

Sorry Captin.

Caring.

We know you do.

I for one would spend money on everything BC related that I can in order to help make a decent profit, thus allowing BC to succeed as a franchise. This brings to mind another Capcom game, Maximo 2. It was after playing this game (and the first one) that I realised "hey, this game is pretty cool, and so are these others I have. And they're all made by Capcom...man...Capcom sure makes a lot of games that I like." And that was the start of my fandom which only grew as I learned that "oh wait, these are the guys who made (my childhood hero) Megaman? Sweet!"

Some time passed and I didn't see a Maximo 3. After looking the game up on Wiki I found out a 3rd game had been in the works, but cancelled due to lower than expected sales of Maximo 2. That is, in my opinion, a (fiddlesticks) shame, and something I wouldn't want to see happen to something as promising as Bionic commando.

In short, yeah I care to.

Ps: you know what would've been awesome? If when BC:R was released there where two buttons on the PSN/XBL/PCequivalent. One "buy for 10bucks" and one "buy for 15bucks". that would've been a hoot ;)

SDCC

For those that haven't been to comic con before (I have, several times), you get in via a badge system, like most cons. Nowadays, you have to get full show badges months in advance, and hotels even sooner...

The issue with SDCC is that since 06, you can't really walk up and buy full show badges anymore, because Saturday sells out so quickly. The first time I went was in 03, and it was much less crowded and full of people. It winds up being stressful and taking the fun out of vacation, so I stopped centering my vacation plans around it. Saturdays are terrible now; it's just too many people for me.

However, I'm also sure that someone will record the big main event and put it on Youtube or elsewhere, so it makes me feel less bad about missing it. Interested to see in what news comes out of it, perhaps some new trailers for 3DBC or such.

About everything and nothing.

Hey, how are you guys, long time since i post here. All the thing you are doing here with the site and with the franchise are awesome. This is the first time that i feel for real the contact and the communication with the development team.

I think that what WithoutUnderpants write is really true, we need to support the franchise buying all the stuff you put on sale and promoting the game with all our friends and on the forums, im pretty sure that im going to buy both versions of the game (PS3 and 360, i dont like the controls of the pc) so when the 3D version comes out ill be able to decide which one to buy based on features, graphics, etc. The thing is that we cant let this franchise die again because next time is going to be for good.

By the way anyone remember that little game called Gun. Smoke?? I think it would be awesome if Capcom planned to make a reedition or a sequel on the same spirit of BC:R.

Greetings from Mexico!!!

Holy crud my name is in the post!!!

Holy shucks, I can't believe you put my name in the post... All I have to say about that is my mother loving butt doesn't deserve that kind of fiddle-sticking honor you fricking beach.

I still remember the first week I found out about this project, my girlfriend was getting really fed up with me dancing around screaming Bionic Commando. Also I fell to the ground and flailed all my limbs as hard as I could while screaming it. She couldn't handle it, so I weighed which meant more to me, and I dumped her.

Also I've seen what you've done for us (the fans), and I can't even imagine how much pain you've endured over this release date thing... So in an attempt to understand I purposefully dislocated my arm (not just to feel alive like the last few times), and I still don't think I've come close to the searing agony that you guys are going through.

I've been devising new ways of feeling the pain with you guys, and I'm proud to announce Hyakitaki's official torture '08.

1. I'm not going to use the bathroom until the game comes out.

2. I'm going to fast until the release of the game.

3. I'm going to sacrifice part of my flesh everyday at 3:00 PM EST until the release.
(This includes but is not limited by squares of carved away flesh, and entire fingers or limbs)

4. Everyday I'm going to give myself a new sliver accompanied by a paper cut with a rule of no 2 slivers can be within 2 inches of each-other.

5. I'm not going to check myself for testicular cancer until the release.

Also as a preemptive strategy to beat the hardest setting of this game I've been burning all my clothes and shaving all the hair off my body. I find that the extra weight of such unneeded luxuries will only hinder my maximum swing capabilities, and thwart my greatest desires.

Ok well on a serious note, I just wanna say thanks for resurrecting one of my favorite childhood games. Which brings a true story to mind:

I remember it was easter one year (I can't remember which year), and I had my basket full of candy and a childish innocence gleaming in my eye, for I had rented Bionic Commando for the NES the day before.

NOTE: This is a trick I learned if you rent games the day before a holiday that closes the store, you get it for an extra day free of charge.
(I wasn't rich growing up)

Anyways I still remember eating candy non-stop while playing Bionic Commando, and that's why I bought a cartridge like 6 years ago and rebuilt my old broken Nintendo.

Love, Hyakitaki

More Digital Tears

Ah, I have given up the hope that I will be able to play BC:R before I am sent off to my Air-operations course for much the summer in a few days (about 6 weeks). At least it should be released by the time I get back…right?

Though hopefully I should be able to get on the site while I am at the course and if the forums are up help break them in with topics like "OMGZ IS TEH GAME FREEROAMZING?" and hear everybody talk about how great BC:R is or how Ben Judd ruined their childhood, dreams, relationships, and soul ;)

Well...

Well, it seems Ben wont answer any questions about release dates even though we have all been waiting a long time for this game, although, he manages to answer every other question. I made a comment awhile back about release dates and he gave me the "SKU" explanation. While I can understand the difficulty you guys are having, you guys have to know SOMETHING of a more definitive release date. This flying in the dark stuff is for the birds. Are we looking at a release this month, or next? I don't know why I bother asking, you wont say anything, but I bet if I asked a question about comic con, you would write a four page document and email it to me then make a podcast about it. And nobody on this site needs to say anything to me. I believe most of you people feel the same way to some degree and nobody here wants to be mean and say it, but someone has to. I have supported you guys by buying the Bionic Commando Rearmed soundtrack and the original Bionic Commando soundtrack, and I believe that all the loyal fans here deserve a more definitive release date. The "meat" of your fanbase comes to this site to see if a Bionic Commando Rearmed release date has been confirmed, not to listen to your podcasts or read about your life as a producer for capcom. The only reason your podcast does as well as it does is because Bionic Commando Rearmed brings the people here to listen to it. If you want to do something "for the fans" I suggest a more definitive release date than "soon".

@Dark Jedi Nova

Unfortunately, the problem is that slots are decided by 1st party and until we get a "slot" from them, I really don't know an exact date. Especially since these things are spaced out by weeks.

The worst thing I can do is guess the date, be another month off, and then give out the image of I don't know what I'm talking about. People will stop trusting us and I have to avoid that so rather than jumping the gun, I have to take a safer approach.

Thanks for understanding.

To be fair

Ben has been doing a great job of giving what he knows. And I personally would rather have Ben say "I dont know" rather than "Date x" because if it cant make it on date x, then we get mad a Ben who, I would hope, is trying to do nothing more than get the game out (I'm SURE he's not playing it w/o us, because I mean, what BC would deny the Bionic goodness from his fellow BC fans).

Delay, delay, come back again some other day...

@dancrane: Are you a civil pilot or are you in the .mil?

Shipping a product is hard stuff. I believe what irks people is the uncertainty. They want the ability to be able to count the days. Unfortunately, due to the very nature of the system (re: MS), it garners tons of uncertainty. If Ben et al knew anything, they'd be shouting it from the rooftops. It must be like children asking "Are we there yet?"

Here's a list of things you can do while waiting for BC:R:

1. Play the original and get the swinging out of your system for a little while.

2. Buy the soundtracks and rock out.

3. Read that book you've been putting off.

4. Go outside. I do this all the time to watch airplanes.

5. Build a model of a tiny Albatross in a bottle.

Anyway, the delay may be a blessing in disguise, as being a little closer (but not too close) to the 3DBC version could have some marketing synergy... magic. I don't know. I'm not a producer. I just design stuff. Just remember what Eric Idle said and look at the bright side of life.

Hey speaking of swag...

So um... I think the release of the music is way cool... however I'm not into paying for music unless the artist is going to come perform it for me. So what about something for me to "support"? I'd love to BUY one of those "I saved Super Joe" shirts.
Besides if you need proof that Ben is a Producer and not a marketer you'd see that he did the "what should we charge" BEFORE he even told us about half the stuff. Note to Ben, watch more infomertals. Ever heard the comment "How much would you pay now?" and "But wait there's more!".
We all know you care, and I've been so relived to hear how you've given the game the love and respect due to a game that is so dear to so many. At this point, knowing the game is "done" and we cant have it almost makes the skin itch. So keep fighting the good fight, and we'll get some lotion.

Well, if you guys are having so much trouble with submission protocols , then why dont you just sell it from here? I can just see Ben battling the Devil taking BC from him saying "BC IS MINE YOU MOTHER...(yeah you know)". Anyways, I'm quite sure in Oct '07 all ya'll (shoot) your pants when this 3DBC was announced, knew nothing about BC:R and now you know about it, all I see is talk about when it's coming out. I know the wait is hard, but you could look on the other hand. They could've just not made it at all. We are gettin 2 BC games. Damn I check this site every day like most of you, more for 3DBC than for BC:R and thats only because I still play the original, I know how great it is and I know they're not gonna screw it up because they're bigger fans than us. I think it's great that they actually take time to come on and talk to us. How many game producers and team members you see do this? All we gotta do guys, is just hold out a little longer and we'll all be grinning our heads off. So lets give these guys the support they need. Keep up the good work guys.

As I've said before

I'm sure the wait will be worth it. And as I've said before, there are kooks out there (I know I'm not the only one) who actually got back into games because of the new BC and BCR coming out this year.(maybe?) I think many of the posts on this thread are helpful to ease the pain of the wait. I myself won't change my underwear until I've got this game. I know that this approach isn't very useful to our dear friend Withoutunderpants, so I'm taking the step for him. a few other suggestions might include
1. Buy a hamster.
2. Write an epic 80's style power ballad entitled- My head only explodes for you baby!!
3. Meditate on the complexity of the psychological nature of Withoutunderpants and marvel at his brave "going commando" nature and life mission.
4. Drink yourself into oblivion until the game comes out and then drink again to celebrate having it grubby little paws whenever it comes out. Thank you all for your time and support.

Keep up the great work...

..Ben and the rest of the team!

You guys did us all a huge favor by implementing all those features into an arcade title for ONLY $10. The day I purchase BC:R I'm gonna feel kinda guilty! So when it is available, I will DL it on the 360 & PS3....and that $20 will still not feel like its enough $$ for this epic, classic-remake!

Do what you do, don't take negative comments....well, negative, (some people are just impatient and need to go on e-bay and buy a bottle of patience and drink that 5hit) and cant wait for BC-3D!!

@Hyakitaki

I'm not sure if it is just me but whenever I try and see your picture from the link you provided I am instead linked to the main page of photobucket.com. Might be my Internet for it has been acting up as of late.

Still I have to see your Bionic Commando underwear (never thought I would say that) if it is half as good as your posts then I am in for quite a laugh-fest (If that is the correct term).

@Ben: There should definitely be a Bionic Commando clothing line designing contest :)

Yipes, How did this damn post get so big!

Granted, we've got the regulars posting multiple times here but still! We are at 50 posts in a couple of days! Go Go Bionic! Go Go Bionic!!

Let me rattle off some responses before we start recording the podcast:

@rapskallion -- Nope, didn't help with the mo-cap although there is a Japanese military "expert" who also worked on Dead Rising so I know of him.

@captinsquash -- Fantastic! You are goin to Comicon baby! And that means you are gonna get the chance to pick up some LIMITED merchandise and brag to all the other Bionic Fans. Some seriously cool stuff. Come over and say "hi".

@Ninja Sheep/Hyakitaki -- Great fan creations. You've certainly come to the right place!

@silverfox64 -- Thanks for noticing. And we DO appreciate you buy multiple copies... that's one of the reasons that they have slightly different content between the different skus. In the end though, I just want a ton of people out there spreading the good word of Bionic Commando and playing the crap out of those challenge rooms. I want to come back and see the banter going back and forth on the best way to beat a certain challenge room on the forums.

It's not about money... otherwise I would be charging 15 bucks. It's about getting lots of people to pick up the game and experience the fantastic swing mechanic in both 2D and 3D.

I'm a newbie...

... to this community, but this seems to be the coolest and most tightly-knit interaction between the gamers and the developers that I have ever seen. I have to say, that is awesome.

@Everybody - you be coolbeans!

Way to go Nesto326!!

I agree whole heartedly with your above post about some of the pointless bitching that's somewhat abundant on this page. Most game companies don't even talk about "product x" until a cemented release date is...well...cemented. The fact that the dudes that are making this game are talking non-stop with the fans is pretty amazing. Most companies wouldn't give our sorry asses the time of day. The fact that BCR and new-fangled BC are works of love for new and old gamers is FIDDLESTICKS awesome. For the fine fellers who are making this possible I say Rock on Ben! Rock on crazy Irish dude who's name sound like a kick ass bad guy from Tron! Rock on Simon! Rock on other BC dudes who's names I don't know. Cheers to you all. And I really do appreciate that BCR's price tag is starving musician friendly. Now if I can only convince my bass player that covering power plant would be Soooooo tits!

@typhon666

I'll do you one better -- If you convince your bass player to put together a Power Plant theme and give us permission to use it for free, we'll put it up on the Bionic Music Player so all BC fans can hear it.

Nothing like free promotion and sharing the BC love, right?

Thanks Ben

I'm not sure if it's in the cards right now, but I know enough musicians who also happen to be closet case video game dorks that it just might happen. Oh, and to faulty's comment above, this little community going here is pretty damn cool to say the least. The more the merrier. It would really rock if a bunch of folks on this sight connected when the new fangled BC comes out to get online info with each other for some good brotherly (or sisterly) WWW death. I'm sure I'll get my ass handed to me for the mere fact that I'm 30 and only crank up the 360 about once every two weeks or so. Nothing like getting destroyed by 16 year olds with more spare time than I have. Cheers all of you!

You're right Ben, but...

The only thing you have yet to give us is the actual GAME!

It's time to release BCR... It was supposed to be out two months ago. You could have kept all those soundtracks to yourself and charged $15 for the game if that meant I would have been able to play it in May. (I know that's more than likely not the case, I'm just sayin')

still cant believe it

i cant believe how awesome this site is. i mean just the communication from people that are working on the game to the fans new and old. I mean its amazing. Ive been trying to get something outta another company about an EPIC series sequel for months now and i got nothing. but here i mean u can get responses within a few hours which by other site standards you wouldnt get any feed back at all. I love this Fragin site!

But now i wonder does the American version of BC site bitch the most about when the game is coming out?

oh and i gotta add a reply to typhon666
Yeah when i read Geariods name (GEAR-IOD) its just sounds like the name of a bad ass cyborg

This thread kick too much...

ass to let die. I know it's a few days old but it makes me chuckle that it's still going. @Captinsquash, He's either a kick ass cyborg, or a decepticon or like I said earlier. I keep thinking he might have been the M.P.C.'s right hand man that was too badass and scary to actually put in TRON. I mean it was a Disney movie and all. The Disney P.R. dudes may have been thinking...."hmmmmm..we have this huge scary ass squid looking program with eyes from hell and arms made out of plasma and lightning shooting out of his ass. Maybe we should tone this down a little for the kids." It's just a thought.

yeah i gotta say i think its badass that the post that got the most response was called "yes we care" and they sooo do.

and ur description of Geariod sounds scary as hell. so yeah i can totally see that in a Disney movie, prolly making some inappropriate sexual comment no doubt

A little brid told me...

...that some one (Ben) may be a Buckeye? It that is true Ben, then I think I will have to go do a BCR rally at OSU (and maybe get some new commandos to join the cause).

@NicHex

We'll I don't know what a brid is but if you are referring to a little squirrel that sits on the Oval during warm summer days... then YES, I am a Buckeye and proud of it!

What's your destination program?

Well I was cruising on my light cycle getting away from those damn red communist M.P.C. dudes and then all the sudden the mega taint stomping program known only as GEAROID came and shot plasma and lightning out everywhere and Flynn got totally ripped a new one. Game over dude!
