Welcome to our second Weekly Field Report, or as we like to call it, the house-keeping edition. We’ve been tidying up here and discovered a few things that slipped down the back of our collective couches.
Who is Gottfried Groeder?
Way back in the prehistoric age of March 2008, we showed off this teaser for a new Bionic Commando character, foolishly promising the answers in "about a week’s time". Oh time, you do play such cruel tricks with us. Well, we finally got to the bottom of our “to-do” pile and there it was: “tell users about awesome new character”.
Groeder is the Rearmed version of the character known only as Bio-soldier in the original, who had such classic lines as “Joe is here, but you’re going to die here” and “It’s too early to feel safe. I’ll kill you here.” Now given a proper storyline and, you know, grammar, Groeder is a terrifying amalgamation of bionic and European, and just itching to make Spencer’s life a misery.
Looked Around the Site Lately?
You might find more than you expected hidden amongst the narrow passageways and URLs of the community site.
For example, do you know about the Recon Map, your irregularly-updated guide to what’s going down in Ascension City?
Or the Classic Bionic Commando pages, which (no offense to the rest of our lovely-looking site), are the most beautiful places in these fine pages?
Or the Bionic Commando Rearmed concept art page? Huh? Didn’t know about that now, did ya? You think you’re so smart….
And if you do find something you like, don’t forget to tell others about it by clicking the RAD button to cast your vote for the coolest parts of our maze-like guide to all things BC.
Competition
Entries for our Exploding Head “Pop Goes the Dictator” competition have been totted up and the winners will be notified shortly! Don’t worry contestants – we have no forgotten about you and soon you’ll have a dictator’s exploding head on your chest, assuming you clear our crack team of exploding head experts who will be judging it. We’re also going to have another couple of competitions coming up here very shortly – stay tuned.
Sweary Bionic Commando Podcast: Tell Your Friends
You probably already know about our beep-laden podcast with 1Up’s Shane Bettenhausen, and Garnett Lee, and Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann, but are you keeping that information to yourself? We need you to get out there and spread the word of the podcast glory. You know how it is: you tell two friends, then they tell two friends, and so on until at least, oh, 8 people or so know about the podcast. So get on those message boards, social networking sites, and those planes that you use to write messages in the sky, and spread the good word!
Happy Birthday to Us
Finally, we thought we'd mention that we celebreated Capcom's 25th anniversary on June 11th. That means I'm ten months older than Capcom, making me Capcom's big brother, who occasionally beats it up and breaks its toys.
Click here to read a message from our revered CEO Tsujimoto-san, who was kind enough to gift us all a special anniversary bottle of wine. Birthday wishes, presents, donations etc. to the usual address!
And with that, we’re done. We’ll be back next week to tidy up some more business.

How could I have missed it!!!
I know what you are thinking.... Hyakitaki must have won the "Pop Goes the Dictator" competition, but that isn't true for I am ashamed to admit that I didn't know about it.Me failing myself by not keeping informed has not only penetrated my honor, but the honor of my family. The salty taste of my tears can be discovered from a lick of any part of my body.
So I wrote this Haiku to express my true feelings:
My chest is cold now
A scar that cannot be healed
I wish I were dead
Hilarious post!
Hi guys. I am actually in Tokyo working on a VERY cool, top-secret promo deal so I am suffering some separation anxiety from Gearoid (who is in Osaka), but I have to say this post was friggin' hilarious! Pure Gearoid (or G-ride as the Grin guys like to call him) magic!High-five from Tokyo, Gearoid.
Ben
Slightly Off Topic
Mr. Judd,I don't know where to put this comment, so I'll put it here. I'm impressed with the greenhouse demo. The physics look great, and the game is looking more and more polished all the time. Hopefully you guys can show us more areas and other goodies in the near future concerning the 3D version.
New Profile
The idea to make the bio-soldier a crazy super human with bionics is awesome, will there be like a sub-story in there? it would be cool if he becomes RAD`s nemesis or something like that. Both games look amazing! and are looking better each time you guys release a new video!PD: it`s funny, i was born on capcom`s second birthday
@Riecholf
You won't be disappointed. Groeder will be making a big splash in Rearmed.Imperial moustache
Earlier today I discovered what an Imperial moustache is, and of course, I immediately thought of The Badds. Two questions. 1) WIll we get to see an Imperial soldier sporting such flamboyant bristle? 2) Is a red eagle the symbol of the Badd!?2 questions
Check on the story listed on the website but actually the Badds are not the ones you fight in the NES version of Bionic Commando. You fight the Imperials who are actually a new army that borrows technology from the Badds. The Badds are of course referencing a certain historical army...1) You will see an Imperial moustache, I promise.
2) Yes, we have kept the Eagle and it is probably visible in some of the play videos released up until now.
Ben
Thank you Ben
This is great. I'm getting more geared up for these games (BCR, BC3D) than MGS4 which releases today. That says a lot!As always, I'm stoked.
I can't wait to tear this new bionic dude a new one. The art on the new character and all the prior that you've submitted is doing exactly what I'm sure the team planned for all along. The drool level for both of these games has reached critical mass. If it weren't for Condemned 2 causing me a severe case of the willies right now, I don't think I'd be able to wait for these games any longer. Keep up the good fight y'all. Rock on my brothers! Will he be making an appearance in the 3D version too? I would accept a "solid perhaps." ;)
Groeder looks terrifying
That face expression is not unlike Shinkiro's art for Yamazaki in Capcom vs. SNK 2.Why is 1up saying this?
I know that several sites out there had random release dates for Rearmed. 1up is giving a new date of 09-15-08. I'm just curious why they would be giving out arbitrary dates if the whole BC team has stated time and time again that it isn't set. Perhaps Ben needs to give these punks a nice old fashion bitchslap. (figuratively speaking) Man, I really hope it's going to be sooner than that.@dvincent
That's a firm maybe!Ben
