Welcome to the first Weekly Field Report here on the Bionic Commando website.
Those who’ve been with us lurking for the last few months know our blogging schedule can be fairly, er, sporadic. As we head into the event and show season for the games industry, and get closer and closer to pushing our products out the door, we’re getting busier and busier, but the amount of things we want to share with you is only increasing. So to avoid anything falling through the cracks, we’ve started this weekly Field Report, where we can round up everything that’s been happening or just tell you about the little things that don’t deserve their own blog post.
Well, let’s get down to business:
Top Secret Trailer
In addition to the multiplayer, we also showed those lucky press member the “Evolution trailer” that will be available in Bionic Commando Rearmed while we were at the Captivate08 event in Las Vegas last week. This trailer shows off the “3D” Bionic Commando in ways you’ve never seen before, and purchasing Rearmed is one of the only ways you’re going to be able to see it. When you do finally get the chance to purchase Rearmed, please let us know what you think about this trailer.
Soundtrack & CD Cover
As you are no doubt aware, the Bionic Commando Rearmed soundtrack is now available for purchase. It looks like we've had an initial good run of things, and we wanted to say thanks to all you people who picked it up. We know one of the things that people have been asking for is an actual packaged version, since some of you just like to hold the disk in your hands – so we’ve prepared a printable cover that you can download and print off right here.
But of course, in keeping with our philosophy of giving you far too much for your dollar (or in this case, for free), we haven’t stopped there – we’ve also prepared a 12-page CD booklet, with exclusive liner notes written by Simon Viklund, the soundtrack’s composer (and incidentally, the director of Bionic Commando Rearmed), explaining all about the music's creation.
You guys are important and, even though we didn't have to do this, we wanted to show our appreciation to everyone that supported the Soundtrack. Now you can have a proper packaged version (there may be some younger readers thinking “music comes in packaged versions?!”). Please keep sending the word around because the more word of mouth we can get, the better. Even though the community site is partially about us giving you guys a fair say and the latest information, we need your help to build the community as well. Go team! ...err… Go go bionic!
Note – you may wish to use a program designed for printing CD covers and booklets to print this out with the best results. There are many such programs freely available at on local interwebs.
New
Wallpaper - Where's Spencer?
Inspired by one of our users, dancrane212 (thanks for your frequent podcast questions, Dan!), we have whipped together a new wallpaper from the latest, jaw-dropping shots of Bionic Commando we released at the Captivate event. You can download it right here.
If you download the wallpaper and look very closely, you might be able to spot a little retro Spencer in there too. In fact, there's more than one - how many can you spot? Lordy, it's just like those children books where you have a find that guy in red, whom legal complications prevent me from naming but you know who I'm talking about...
Download the wallpapers here (scroll to the bottom!)
The Podcast Hits Vegas!
At Captivate, not only did we get to ham things up with the press, but we also got to invite some of the hottest podcast hosts in the industry onto Episode 17. We've got Shane Bettenhausen, Garnett Lee, and Jeff Gerstmann along with your favorite Top Secret staff and Billy Berghammer as a special guest host! While I can't say it's the cleanest podcast you will have heard, inspired by Las Vegas it certainly is full of sex, drugs, and exploding heads...
Look for it next Tuesday!
That’s it for this week – swing our way again very soon, y’hear?

Liner Notes
I'm a total nerd for Liner Notes and Simon's comments really brought the whole soundtrack together. I couldn't really place the Meet with Enemies theme until he mentioned that it was from the original Commando. Then it hit me. I knew it sounded like a Commodore the first time I heard it (the SID-style synths are unmistakable) but I'm surprised he didn't use an actual SID to make some of the tones! They're that close to mimicking the SID.Thanks Geroid
What a simple and refreshing way to keep us informed¡This weekly field report it`s a (fiddlesticks) good idea¡
I've looked and looked
But I can't find any RAD Spencers... :(cant wait to put this all togther
Cant wait for the game (both)
thanks so much
not to be greedy, any chance of a companion disc with the equivilant original 80's versions of the music? preferably in the same approximet order?
just throwing ideas out there, I'd be willing to pay for that one too.
Any insight to July?
PSU claims that Ben Judd mentions that July is a possible month for the BCR to be released. First, is that statement true? Second, if you can't give an exact date for any reason. Do you think it will be early, mid, or end of July?New Trailer?
Thats awsome about the wallpaper guys, looks great on my monitor. On another note I was reading Gamespots impressions from the new Bionic Commando demo in Vegas and this caught my eye "....showed off a new trailer. While the trailer showcased some neat stuff, such as the Rad Spencer in-game model you'll unlock by having Bionic Commando Rearmed". So when do we get to see this trailer?
On yet another note, so Gearoid I heard you translating an interview for Resident Evil 5. Did ya get any scoops?
Gearoid the amazing Translator
Not only did he translate the interviews, he was the translator for the RE 5 presentations at the Captivate event. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3067/2546716258_d6870ecbfa_o.jpg(I'm the dude right next to him with the tan man purse.)
Not only that, he was the translator for Takeuchi-san in a secret meeting which was unrelated to RE5. Gearoid certainly has quite the "Top-Secret" (pun intended) information on a great many things. Don't worry though, he's not a very big dude in real life, so you could probably beat him up and make him spill the beans! =D
jk, Gearoid! <3 =)

found rad!
i won't say exactly but look about the waterfall.Hidden Pictures!!
I love the wallpaper! It's soooo much like Hidden Pictures which was in a children's magazine called Highlights that I used to read when I was young. Here's a good hint: Spencer favorite movies are "Cliffhanger", "The Rock", and "Predator"...
I personally couldn't get the one in the demo. I saw it there, asked Ben, who then asked Lars, who then said "Keep Trying" lol
Anouncement
Announcing the first annual mass suicide:Once Bionic Commando is released I am proud to invite you to play the game for five days. After those five days are up we will be meeting in an open field, all with original Bionic Commando NES cartridges (if you don't have one I can obtain one for you).
Then begins the ceremonial departure from this life, simply because the climax of our lives will be the release of this game. It's easy enough because it goes without saying that all our lives will be downhill after this, so why keep living?
Thank you, and I hope to see you there.

I did that already. I cut up Rise of the Albatross into a nice chunk to use on my iPhone.Ring tones
