So our great voyage to Sweden has ended. It's been a lot of ups and downs, but the one thing that is unmistakable is the fact that we have made some solid progress.

For those of you who have been listening to the latest edition world-famous Bionic Commando podcast, you probably are aware that we will not be hitting our estimated May release date.

I apologized there but again, allow me to say that I am sorry. Everyone is working around the clock both in Japan and Sweden trying to get this into your hot little hands. I promise the wait will be worth it and even Jaqub (one of Grin's testers) has promised that he will eat *FIDDLESTICKS* if this game doesn't get an average of 9 out of 10. That's some serious confidence but I have to say that it will certainly be one of the highest-scoring XBLA/PSN/PC games out there and certainly one with the best value for money. So please bear with us a little longer.

While in Sweden Grin showed us off the new lighting system they've got up and running. WOW!!! What a difference nice lighting makes! Usually you see changes on a much smaller level. A new map is added here, a character model changes there, enemy locations change a bit... However, changing the lighting makes a huge difference and the games looks very, very nice.

I'll be honest, I had my doubts about the graphics in the beginning (sorry, but I have been raised on the aesthetically pleasing Japanese games) but now I am not worried a bit. Plenty of colors, nice realism, great textures. It's taken a while to get here but if you compare the new stuff with what we showed in October, it is a night and day difference.

I know the wait for BCR is painful but there will be some nice
announcements to help soothe your pain over the next few weeks. One of them will be involving the music (oh yeaaaaah!) but for now try to "hang" in there a little bit longer.

Cheers,
Ben

It's taking longer cause you guys are heavily involved in ?making the game better"? Personally, I thought that the "salad" reason would have also been acceptable, as well as having all of Capcoms and GRINs babies for being able to be heading these games.

But late is better than not at all. Just don't let it turn into Duke Nukem Forever.

2 more questions

Sorry to bombard you guys with questions, but there are some things I'd like to know.

The first question is one that I've posted before (However it seems to have gone missing). That question is what is the "New" target release date for BCR? As I heard Ben Judd say in last weeks podcast that they are pushing for June, however only two days later, John Diamonon from Capcom made a blog post in about Rocketmen on the Playstation Blog. It also featured mentions of other Capcom Digital Download titles, BCR Being one of them, and states that BCR will release in July after Commando 3 and Super Street Fighter II. Just want to know which one is the "Real" target date? The blog post link is below.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/05/15/rocketmen-expansion-pack-available-today/

Second question is about the PS3's new ability to use Youtube for Gameplay Recording. Just wondering if this is something that could be implemented via a patch (If not already implemented)as it definitely could be great for user videos and capturing single player mode, etc. Just a thought :).

As always thanks for your time :).

My thoughts exactly

What is the real expected release date? June or July/fall? Dude don't make us wait till fall. I mean BCR is way better than another Super Amazingly Fantasic Editon of SF2. That I could wait on not BCR. If we have to wait that long, then add online multi-player.

The mysterious May 15th release date, mystery no more

Guys, just listened to the new podcast, and you wanna know where the May 15th release date came from, well from your very own site...wanna know where? Well look here.

http://www.bioniccommando.com/us/blog_entries/view/151

Well, it used to, I don't claim that it was changed, but if I remember correctly it listed May 15th on the PC release information. So that's where it came from....and don't tell anyone but Gearroid posted that... ;-)

Delays suck! Crunching sucks! Gimme my life back!!!

Well, to be honest, we really can't say what the official release date will be since it comes down to 4 factors:

1) How long it takes for the game to approved.
--> We are using a lot of new technology (tying BCR to NGBC, other magazine tie-ups, in-game commerce and remote play). Each of these means there is one more bump along the road and some of the rules you have to follow are brutal.
2) Internal competition.
--> Cannibalism is bad in business just like it is in society. Since we are pushing a lot of digital products you have to find the window that works out best for the company. Don't worry, BCR is the best download title you will find for 10 bucks and that is both internal and external... just don't like our internal guys know!
3) Worldwide release.
--> One other problem is that you want to release the game simultaneously on all platforms and in all countries and syncing up something like that is ROUGH. Seriously, the Japanese language check has been a pain in the butt and it's the language that is holding the others back. But if we don't submit it at the same time it will split leaderboards which I want to avoid as well.
4) First party release schedules.
--> Since the game will be released on their platform it's pretty much their "party" so even if the game gets approved quickly, they determine a large part of exactly when the game will ship. It's also the reason why we can't give you a specific release date because not even we know for sure.

Still though, I can say that Grin, Gearoid, and myself are really exhausted from the amount of sheer hours we have put into the production. You want to find a way to make you hate one of your favorite childhood games... this is it! Try 16 hour days for 7 weeks straight and you'll hate anything!

More updates as they come.
Ben

I don't really mind the delay, for most of my gamer life I only had nintendo systems so a one month(ish) delay doesn't bother me in the slightest. Unless you release it after July 6th because I would have to go 6 weeks before I could play the game :'(

It's good to hear that you guys are still dedicated to this project, and I can't wait to see the lighting.

Hang in there Ben. I know your kinda stressed and a little defensive about the delay, but we totally support you. Ya we are disappointed but just cause we are excited to play it. So you keep "Improving the Quality" *Fiddlesticks*, and when your done we'll all pitch in and hire someone to help you toss everyone's salad!

Thanks Ben

Just wanted to say thanks for your response. I'll be sure to pass the information down in my information thread over at the Playstation Forums. (http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3dlgames&thread.id=71688)

I am still wondering about the Youtube Recording abilities, are their any thoughts about this feature? I do feel that it could be awesome, I remember playing BC on the NES recording "Speed Runs" I'd love to see this possible for this remake. Sorry if asking about this is being a bit pushy, but I really would enjoy this and I think others would as well. Anyway thanks for your answer :)

Youtube Recording

Indeed that sounds really damn cool!

But alas we are at a point in the schedule where even fixing a minor but is delaying the production so trying to shoehorn in new functionality would make this a 2009 release and I'm sure none of us want that.

I can say, that I'm a huge fan of learning from my mistakes and adapting to the situation so if BCR does well and proves to be a solid franchise then I certainly will think about how we can make BCR2 a better experience using all the latest technology...

That's if the company will still have me!

Thats what updates are for....

Hey adding features is what updates are for. Besides Ben needs to get working on the full PSP version of BCR. I'd even love to have just the original NES version of BC for my PSP.

The Green Mile.

You doods are almost there, keep it up and don't worry too much about some of us being on your back. I would prefer you guys take your time then to start rushing and make a few fowl ups becuase of it. I'm a little bit glad you guys are gonna take a bit longer, gives me time to play Ninja Gaiden 2. Its gonna suck when Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out though. Too many damn good games this year. My pockets hurt. :(

Thanks for all the information

Hey Ben, i really hope that this game does well on the sales and on the critics (more on the sales) this game (and the new one) has been the news that i have been expecting for the last 10 years!!! Im a really big fan of the original game and since the Snes i was expecting for a true sequel of the game, i was always dissapointed cause there was never news, not even a mention of a possibility.

When the 3D Era begins and was stablished i was a little sad cause i thought that a new BC game on 2D Platform would be out of order but i was still expecting at least a new 3D game, then notting came (again).

Suddenly it came the time that i was like "letting go" and with the idea that not anyone would resurrect this franchise, but then you guys came with the announcement of a brand new sequel of the original on full 3D and i was really thrilled about it, believe me that i called a lot of my childhood friends just to let them know about this great news, it was awesome!!.

After that when you release the information about the remake of the original and that it would be played like the original on 2D Platformd (with some 3D graphics) was like my old me (that child one) celebrate that news hahaha, i could not believe that after a lot of years and after i thought that the franchise was dead you were giving me not just one but two games. Im really thankfull with you because you made it real, and it shows that you are making this with all the passion and love neccesary, and more important that you are listening to us the fans and have direct contact, we really appreciate it.

So, even if this delay makes me feels down (i was counting the days) its ok men, dont worry ant take your time, we want for this game to make it real good so it could blow minds to the eceptics and the people that does not knows this franchise, im sure that they will love it!!

Thanks!

Thanks Again

Just wanted to say thanks again Ben, there aren't many developers that communicate with gamers, I do appreciate all response here :), just wanted to say keep on the good work on this front.

As far as Youtube Recording, I really didn't have intention on seeing this with BCR at launched, more like a patch maybe. Thanks for your reply however :).

Public Apology to Gearroid

Gearroid,

Hey man, just in case you thought I was adding to the crew of people pickin' on you, that was not the case, after listening to the last podcast and posting my comment, I thought I needed to apologize and say I was sorry if you were offended by my comment, it was meant in no way, shape, or form to be that. I was poking fun, as has been par for course on the podcasts (mostly), except for here recently.

I made a comment over on the latest podcast (which was supposed to stay internal and only to you guys, but hey, it's public now and so be it, there is nothing I wrote that I should be ashamed of anyway) but it does take you guys to task to shape things up, regardless of how things are going personally.

Anyway, I hope you accept this apology, and no hard feelings about my comment. I just wanted to point out where I thought I saw the release date information, and jibe Gearroid in fun, but unfortunately I was unable to do that in good conscious due to circumstances here recently by way of the podcast.

As I said on my other post good luck with everything, and I still am waiting patiently (as much I can muster) to play something I've been waiting almost a good year for.

Take it easy,
Brian

Everyone's opinion counts

Don't worry Brian, Gearoid (and the gang) didn't take any hard feelings on the matter. You have a right to your opinion and unless you make it known to us, then we won't know what needs fixing.

We want to read all of our user comments on the podcast even if they are bad. And trust me, we do get plenty of bad ones as well. Since again, we value what you fans think.

That being said, the podcast is a tricky beast. Probably a majority of the listeners really like the "fiddlesticks" censoring style we use since it helps make the podcast feel more natural and loose. A lot of people don't like it when you just do straight up PR on the show for the game. We aren't afraid to complain about our own games on the show and likewise we do push the curse word envelope as well.

That being said, there are some people who don't appreciate the side of the podcast so we are constantly trying to see how we can adjust it and tweak it to make it better. I can say that we have a good crew but more importantly we have a balanced crew.

Gearoid is very straight-laced and tries to keep the podcast on topic. I personally always push for more relaxed talking because I like the 1-up style of podcasting. Jon... is well, Jon. He needs about 300 percent less sugar. And Miguel also has a nice witty joke and fits into my thirty-something generation.

So, I think we have the right ingredients for something great... but bare with us until we get there.

Thanks Brian.

I don't mind

I don't mind waiting a little longer for the release. It's obvious that the staff is as eager to get the game into fan's hands as it is eager to get reviews and comments once the fans get a chance to play it.

You can certainly tell that BCR is a labour of love based on the sheer amount of hours and work they are putting into it, and I appreciate the perfectist attitude that is being taken.

My only request is that once the release date is officially decided that it be made known publically as soon as possible. It's so hard on my poor heart to come on and read updates of delay.

Take as long as you need

Really too many games, end up being great in concept but really dissaponting in excution, because they try to sell an unfinished product.

I personally dont mind waiting more, ive been waiting more than 10 years for this, so a few more months wont hurt.

No worries man! I can give as good as I take, have no fear :) However, I fully support all efforts to move the fun-poking away from me and towards Ben, where of course it rightfully belongs...
