There have been many variations on the Bionic Commando theme - the classic 8-bit bloops of the NES version, the thumping electronica beats of Simon Viklund’s Rearmed masterpiece, the orchestral theme by Jamie Christopherson you hear in many of our stunning trailers and the guitar solo purity of Vertexguy’s remix.
But here is the latest, maybe the greatest, and definitely the most Swedish of the lot: a full on 2 minute metal remix by Machinae Supremacy, a towering band who hail from the same frozen desolate wastelands beautiful Swedish valleys as BC developers Grin. You can catch it on our front page or view the remixed trailer right here.
Sweden is well known as the home of many great metal bands, but Machinae Supremacy bring an extra twist that retro-loving BC fanatics will love – they’re defined as “SID metal”, a genre that, as far as I can tell, they themselves invented. It combines classic Swedish ripping guitars with an electronic synthesizer sound using the chip originally used in the Commodore C64.
Their love of videogames doesn’t end there, as the band has also played Play! A Video Game Symphony with the Swedish Philharmonic Orchestra where they did not perform Bionic Commando S&M style, but a rendition of a theme from Final Fantasy VI.
Have a listen to the awesomeness, and when you have reattached your ears, head on over to their website to download a pleasing amount of their music for free (in FLAC!).
And over on the Bionic Music Player, you can find an extra special treat – a rendition of the Area 08 “Power Plant” theme.
